Get to know Jesus
You may have heard about Jesus. Perhaps your knowledge is limited to what you’ve heard during the Christmas season, but there’s much more to the story than what is often told.
The truth is that God was worried about the world he had created. He gave people freedom of choice — so we wouldn’t be like robots — and we made the decision to live apart from him. He was saddened by the poor decisions we were making, which led to pain, lies and even death.
During the course of history, God tried over and over again to get the human race to depend solely on him. You can learn more about his many attempts to reach out to people in the Bible.
God knew he needed to intervene; otherwise, the world would die because of the poor decisions people were continuing to make. After trying to use prophets, kings, judges and others to convey how deeply he cared about them, he realized he needed to take matters into his own hands.
God decided to come down to earth as a human to save his creation.
Just think about that for a moment: He left his throne in heaven to come down to a world that had turned into a sin-filled, despicable place — to save you and me.
God’s love for humans is incomprehensible. In fact, the Bible says, “And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is” (Ephesians 3:18).
Jesus — God’s son — came to earth as a baby. He didn’t come here as God, the powerful being from heaven, but as a child, just like us. He could have come as a king, a ruler or a supernatural being. But he decided to come in human form, to win our hearts.
One of the most famous verses in the Bible is found in the book of John. It says, “For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16).
When you think about it, it’s pretty amazing that God went through all that effort just to get our attention and save us. He wants every person — including you — to have the opportunity to join him in heaven. He plans to come back soon. Are you ready to take that step and make him the leader of your life?
If you come to New Hope Adventist Church, you will hear stories from the Bible that will teach you more about God’s great love for us — and why we should embrace him as our leader.
